Report on the 1st FFN GR Congress

The Fragility Fracture Network Greece (FFN GR) successfully organized the 1st Congress “Bridging the Gap”, which took place on 14-16 March 2019 at the Conference and Cultural Centre of the University of Patras, under the auspices of the Region of Western Greece, the University of Patras and the Association of Social Entities “Solidarity Pillars – Kostis Stefanopoulos”.

The themes of the Congress concerned the prevention of fragility fractures, perioperative care, networking and community care as well as health policy-making for the elderly. The aim of the event was to create the right conditions to fill “systemic” gaps, provide a better quality of life for the elderly and their carers, and save valuable resources.

The congress was attended by 215 participants from all relevant disciplines, such as university professors, doctors of various specialties, psychologists, occupational therapists, economists. The program, largely structured in parallel sessions, included oral presentations, poster sessions as well as roundtables and interactive discussions, which allowed for a particularly fruitful exchange of views on patient care, the creation of a more favorable framework and objectives to be achieved in the future.

The distinguished invited speakers Hubert Blain (University of Montpellier), Colin Currey (University of Edinburgh), Paolo Falaschi (Sapienza University of Rome), Jay Magaziner (University of Maryland), Luca Pietrogrande (University of Milan) and David Marsh (University College London), who shared their valuable experience, largely contributed to the success of the event, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approach and holistic management of fragility fractures.

The Congress Committee and the FFN GR Board would like to thank the participants and all those who made possible the implementation of the 1st Congress with their support.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the 2nd Congress of FFN GR that will be organized in combination with the Southern Europe FFN Regional Expert Meeting on April 24-26, 2020 in Athens, Greece.
